  2. And a Happy Year from a balmy and strangely warm Chicago....sunny and in the mid 50s in January.....scared we're going to get hit hard by a lot of snow soon....not so comfortable with this excellent weather...lol.

  3. And, a very Happy New Year from a very cold Toronto, Canada! Thanks so much for these tunes! Stumbled upon Mildred Bailey a few years ago and can't get enough of her! Best, provokeR

  4. What I like best about Mildred is the warmth in her voice, evidently in her personality too.

Others can sing as well technically: but she imbues her vocals with human kindness and joy more than most.

Two examples, which "Babsi" hasn't got to yet, are Fats Waller's "Willow Tree" (yes, the OTHER weeping Willow song) and "Where are you?". Both are plaintive songs, indeed songs of loss and/or abandonment. But Mildred makes the most of Fats' puckish melodious element in the first and finds her own heart in the second, to give what could be tragic, abysmal, desperate songs dignity and the warmth of humanity.
