  4. Please let me proffer my thanks as well... not only for the music, but for the every-man philosophy you espouse! I have 3000+ of these dang 78s and you've presented me with a shortcut to their digitization, and lets me choose those seemingly otherwise unavailable. I wonder if there is anything YOU need. You seem to lack for little! --- In any event, it seems we share the desire to delight those to whom 'shellac' and 'vinyl' are merely chemical abstractions. Very best wishes, Ted Haigh

  5. Ooooo....3000+?? me like!! :) There's always stuff I'm lacking. I try to make complete lists, but I'm often missing things. That's why my lists often have such varied bit rates, I sometimes have to find things to complete them from incredibly varied sources....video rips, the odd online file here and there. My lists aren't always for the audiophile, but my goal is to expose folks to artists that they may not know.....or at least to get an appreciation for an artist, or era, not to appeal to people who already know and have the stuff. Sometimes it's very hard to get a list together....I've got so many on the backburner, not able to list them, because I'm still trying to find things to pad the lists out.

  6. Oy. Why Google login wants to call me "Unknown" is beyond me. drcocktail tends to be my moniker. The other complexity - especially as relates to 78s - is that they same exact takes - same matrix numbers - get digitized at varying bit rates from various original sources and become so aurally different you'd think they weren't even the same band! THEN they get titled all manner of names by the meticulous and the sloppy. When you deal with shotgun artists like Chick Bullock, that compounds the insanity. I like that you are putting together your lists as numbers instead of album/CD components since duplicates and more confusion result from that. Those formats are great to start from, but the cuts need to be cleansed from those artificial associations. It's different with LPs and CDs of single artists from the late '50s to present. Some presumption of order can surely be appropriate there, but alternate takes are so much less important the more recent you get. Tell you what...we oughta do this outside of the comment box. We can pinpoint fun stuff to offer one another via email, if that suits you. I'm available at either drcocktail ( at ) cocktailspa ( dot ) com or filmgraphics 9 at ) tedhaigh ( dot ) com. I'm in LA, but I LOVE Chicago....House of Glunz alone is a little-known gem, but I used to love the old Bucket o' Suds too.... probably a little before your time. Ted

  7. So true....when I have to occasionally find songs from some of these online sources...archive.org, stuff like that..the tags are often completely wrong. Wrong artists, titles, dates, etc. Especially OTR files, often the dates are completely off. Often what's wrong are takes, versions (earlier and later)...very sloppy and strange, really hard to trust, especially if the downloader is unfamiliar with the artist in question. That's why it often takes me so long to get lists up...just trying to sort through my copies VS other sources, trying to find the right versions of things...if I just posted LPs, I'd be able to get so much up and so much faster. :0 Hey, contact me at essayez37@gmail.com, we can compare some notes...that would be great! Wow...House of Glunz....trippin' You know, I have some old mixology books from there, advertising, and old bottles with the distrib logo...post-prohib stuff, but very cool. Bucket 'O Suds, btw...been there, AGES ago, before it closed. I have a massive collection of early mixology books, so I loved everything to do with Joe Danno.
