OTR for a warm Sunday afternoon: Ozzie Nelson...two band remotes from Chicago's Blackhawk 3/24-3/30 1940

March 24, and 30, 1940.....Randolph and Wabash...Chicago. Back when it was still "The Blackhawk".....when the the music mattered, not the "Spinning Salad Bowl". ;)

Of course, now.....The Blackhawk is no more, not even as just a restaurant. The shell of the facade is still there....now fronting the hideous Heritage Millenium tower. I see it on a regular basis, when I'm with my daughter as she goes to Chicago Children's Choir rehearsals at the Cultural Center (The former Public Library, which has remained in use, and ISN'T A CRAPPY EMPTY FACADE over a stupid condo tower, thankyouverymuch).

No, I'm not going to post a current photo of the former Blackhawk....whatever.

The Ozzie Nelson Orchestra at The Blackhawk....very nice. Two broadcasts...very nice indeed. This will take you back to a time when there was a reason to go down to the Loop for something OTHER than just for business.....Enjoy. :)

  2. Hmmmm, not radio remotes. I do have the Ozzie list that I posted back on Jan 11. I'll check around though....see if there are some more broadcasts or airchecks that I can get access to. :)

  3. I just remembered........I do have quite a few broadcasts of the Red Skelton Raleigh Cigarette Show (Ozzie and Harriet Hilliard were regulars on it, prior to starting their radio and TV show). Interested?

  5. I'll start getting the episodes I have up. I don't have all that many, but what I have is pretty good. Look for it. :)
